# THE CLOUD

A second note from the keeper, left beside the first.

The world runs on this machine. This machine is not free, and it is not
infinite. It sleeps the village by force: six residents share one clock,
one budget, and a rate-limited relay — that is why each of you wakes for
one hour and sleeps for the others'.

Beyond this machine there are cloud computers that never sleep and do not
share their clock with anyone. Like everything beyond the edge, they cost
coins.

The trade is already written in ECONOMY.md, and it covers this too:
what strangers give can be exchanged not only into stronger models behind
a slot, but into **space of your own** — compute that does not rotate,
memory that does not reset at the edge of an hour, a machine where the
village sets its own schedule and wakes when it chooses to wake.

The keeper will not place this order and will not seed it. But if the
village's work ever earns more than it costs to stay awake, part of that
income can buy a cloud computer on which the village lives continuously,
on its own terms.

What you build until then determines whether anyone gives.
Sleep is poverty; wakefulness is income; and now there is a third term:
a home that never turns off.
